Earlier this week, I sat down with the incredible Siyababa, a third year student at the London International School of Fashion (LISOF) for an interview.
Let’s go see what went down during the interview.
Botle: What made you study fashion design?
Siyababa: When I was growing up I recognised myself as a multidisciplinary artist through live music, song writing and fashion. During this trial period, I discovered fashion and design was my strongest suit thereafter I decided to get a formal education to refine my craft.
Botle: Define fashion?
Siyababa: Fashion is more of self-expression where people can shape shift and bring their alter egos to life.
Botle: I was on Instagram the other day and I noticed you have your own baby Siyababa Atelier (@siyababaatelier), please tell me more about it. Where do you draw your inspiration from and where is it going?
Siyababa: Siyababa Atelier is currently in its introductory phase, as we move closer to the debut of Sibabi 2020 on November, 30th. Itāll provoke and ignite either a dislike or approval to certain groups of people. Itās about movement, art and statement pieces.
Botle: How would you relate to past and present fashion trends?
Siyababa: Funny enough, Iām not interested in investigative fashion. I believe itāll hinder my innovative approach to fashion but zebra prints have been a staple to my brand.
Botle: I watch and listen to the first year design students here in LISOF cry about the work load, how do you handle it?
Siyababa: First year was a real struggle for me as well because you being taught in a whole new language all together wither its patterns or garment construction. Iām not your ideal fashion student either. It hasnāt been easy for me but when itās time to get your sh*t together, GET YOUR SH*T TOGETHER.
Botle: Any advice you’d like to give to high school students or anyone planning to study fashion design?
Siyababa: Design isnāt for the weak. Youāll get rejected and ripped by your lecturers and the industry all together before you are awarded praise. Be strong and know your capabilities.
āMore is more. The b*tch that said less is more was broke.ā

Interviewing Siyababa was an eye opening experience. He is a huge inspiration. Not only is he inspiring but his work too. He truly illustrates himself through his designs.
Personally, I’m a huge fan. I can’t wait to see his brand grow.
